Whoever sees the fruits immediately understands why this name is so appropriate!

🌶️ Fruits and flavor

The Kolobok produces beautiful, round to slightly flattened fruits that strongly resemble small tomatoes.

The fruits have a smooth, shiny peel and turn from light green to a beautiful deep red color during ripening.

What makes this variety special is the exceptionally thick fruit walls, which can reach about 8 to 10 mm in length.

The flesh is firm, juicy and pleasant to taste.

With our own cultivation at DG Seeds and Plants, we were particularly satisfied with the quality of the fruits. We tried the Kolobok ourselves and were able to confirm that the flesh is remarkably thick and particularly delicious, with practically no noticeable spiciness.

The fruits usually weigh about 80 to 160 grams, depending on the growing conditions.

🔥 Spicy

Very mild – practically not spicy (about 0 SHU)

The Kolobok is generally considered to be a sweet pepper variety.

Even during our own taste test, the spiciness was virtually imperceptible.

Because of this, this variety is particularly suitable for those who want to enjoy the taste of peppers without excessive heat.

🍽️ Culinary Applications

Thanks to its exceptionally thick flesh, the Kolobok is particularly versatile in the kitchen.

The fruits are delicious to eat raw, to incorporate into salads, or to use in hot preparations.

Thanks to their round shape and sturdy fruit walls, they are also excellent for filling with minced meat, rice, vegetables or cheese.

The Kolobok also seems to us to be an excellent choice for preparing soft, aromatic chutneys. The thick flesh can provide a pleasant texture and a full tomato flavor, without the chutney becoming overly spicy.

In addition, this variety is very suitable for:

Mild tomato sauces

Grilling and roasting

Stuffed peppers

Cooking and preserving

Fresh salads and cold preparations

A particularly interesting pepper for those who like to experiment in the kitchen!

🌱 Plant and grow

The Kolobok usually develops into a compact, bushy plant about 30 to 50 cm high.

Despite its limited height, the plant can produce a nice amount of relatively heavy fruits.

Due to its compact growth habit, this variety is particularly suitable for growing in pots, on the terrace, in the greenhouse, or in a warm, sheltered location in the garden.

A sunny location, sufficient nutrition and a uniform water supply promote the development of the thick, juicy fruits.

🌿 Growing information

Type: Capsicum annuum

Provenance: Former Soviet Union

Type: Sweet peppers

Pithiness: Very mild, practically not spicy (approx. 0 SHU)

Fruit color: Light green to reddish

Fruit shape: Rounded to light-rounded

Fruit weight: approx. 80–160 grams

Fruit wall: approx. 8–10 mm

Planth height: approx. 30–50 cm

Sowing period: February – March

Root temperature: 22–28 °C

Pitch: Sunny, warm and sheltered

Cultivation: Pot, greenhouse, open ground or large pot

Pollination: Open Pollinated (OP) – seeds originating from naturally pollinated flowers.
